The Sphagnum fuscum is an extremely resistant species and particularly suitable for cultivation with sundews and other small plants. Although it grows quickly, it tends to compact without submerging the plants. It forms in a short time a dense and low cushion of sphagnum, which does not need to be pruned. It is well suited for a monospecific nursery: as in the case of the Sphagnum subnitens, this species is the right compromise between large species but too intrusive to grow with smaller plants, and between small species but too slow to grow.
