The
Sphagnum auriculatum
is similar to the Sphagnum
subsecundum from
which differs for the larger size and a better adaptation to the
growth on humid but not too marshy soil. If kept in direct sun, it
can form dense meadows, and it is very well suited for the
cultivation of temperate Drosera. The characteristic that gives the
name to the species is the tendency (during summer) of the branches
closer to the capitula to wrap around it, especially the plants that
did not grow under direct sunlight.
