The Sphagnum angustifolium spreads in the Northern Europe and it is characterized by great strength and fast growth. It develops very large, bushy and erect heads. It prefers strong lighting and it thrives even under direct sunlight. The water level has to be kept very high and it advisable to spay it often with water, especially during the warmest periods. It responds well to small fertilisation and it does not show any problems until 35-40°C (95-104°F). Because of the rapid growth, it is recommended to always check the cultivation and cut and transplanting the heads as they grow, in order to form a compact “carpet”.

Notice:

Following the revision of the taxonomy of the European sphagnum species, the identification of some of the species belonging to the cuspidata section should probably be modified. It is likely that none of the clones previously identified as Sphagnum obtusum, is actually that species. The new identifications are in progress; in any case, when the new identification is made, the code of each clone will remain unchanged.

Updates:

C11 according to the new analysis is Sphagnum angustifolium

C12 according to the new analysis turns out to be probably Sphagnum isoviitae.

Notice: The identification of the sphagnum species of this site is not 100% certain, because it has not yet been possible to make genetic analysis, but only morphological. For this reason, the identification of some species may be subject to changes due to new and more accurate analysis. When the identification of an already distributed clone is changed, the species name is changed, but the clone code remains the original one. For this reason, it is important to keep a record of the clone codes in your collection.
