The Sphagnum platyphyllum is a species which plants are smaller than the other species. It grows in small peat bogs and temporary ponds at the base of the grasses stems. It tolerates well different levels of brightness, even though it grows faster in the shade. The humidity is not a problem for this species that in nature spends weeks with low levels of humidity of the substrate, stopping the growth, and going back to vital as soon as the water level rises. t has a particularly slow-growth and it will hardly form dense "carpets". When it is exposed to direct sun it becomes brown/dark green. It prefers a not too nutrient-poor soil. It is suitable for the cultivation with small slow-growth plants.
