The Sphagnum fallax is among the most suitable spices for cultivation. The morphology is similar to one of the Sphagnum pulchrum and the colour is similar to one of the Sphagnum obtusum. It is characterized by a growth tendentially less erect and more “spread”. This allows to obtain flourishing crops even without cutting and transplantation operations. It tolerates a very wide range of temperatures; for this reason it can continue to grow lush all year round, with a short break during the winter months. This species is not suited to be used with slow-growth plants, because it might suffocate them.
Warning:
Following the revision of the taxonomy of the European sphagnum species, the identification of some of the species belonging to the cuspidata section probably needs to be modified. Clone C31 is certainly not S. recurvum, as previously indicated. It could be one of the following 3 species: Sphagnum fallax, Sphagnum brevifolium or Sphagnum isoviitae. In any case, when the new identification is made, the code will remain C31.
