Drosera madagascariensis is a carnivorous plant originating in Madagascar and South Africa. It looks like an upright plant with a red-colored stem from which springs spatulate leaf sprigs with tentacles on top of which bring glands that secrete a sticky liquid through which the plant can capture insects.
Its special tree-shaped structure and the lively colors of its leaves make this carnivorous plant one of the most decorative.
Drosera madagascariensis reaches adulthood, a maximum height of 20 cm, and its root system is not very developed: it has small roots that mainly use for anchoring to the ground and water absorption, feeding almost exclusively thanks to the captured prey. Living in tropical environments requires high temperatures during the summer with humidity above 70%. During flowering, the Drosera madagascariensis produces one or two stems long from 20 to 40 cm at the end of which blooms from 4 to 12 flowers with a cyclamen color with a diameter not exceeding 5 millimeters, however due to the high energy that the plant must to spend to complete the flowering, it is recommended to cut flowers before they develop.
Like the others tropical Droseras, it is not expected to have winter rest and therefore during this period it must be cultivated at temperatures above 15 ° (a terrarium is recommended).
The seeds I sell have been harvested on the dates indicated, and were produced by self-fecundation from cultivated plants.
